I love making character or themed cakes for my kids birthdays. This year my little boy turned four years old and we threw him a "Big Blue Beastie" party-- it's from a children's book called "Dexter Bexley and the Big Blue Beastie". If you haven't read this one, I highly recommend it! My very talented sister made Brennan a stuffed Beastie and I made the cake to look like her creation.
I even went so far as to color the white cake blue, so this Beastie was blue through and through. I just used an 11x15 casserole dish to bake the single layer cake, then cut out the right shape. I covered it in a smooth layer of blue buttercream frosting, then thought he should be covered in fur, so I used a star tip and squeezed away.

Brennan was ecstatic about the end result-- and it was yummy to boot!
